LAHORE: The city was placed on high-alert yet again on Friday, in anticipation of Shab-e-Miraj, before locals had the chance to commemorate the occasion by lighting clay lamps.

The superintendant of police (SP) was the bearer of bad news, “We have intelligence information that a truck, laden with explosives, has entered the city - possibly with several suicide bombers.”

Heavy police contingents were moved outside mosques and shrine and the entry and exit points to the city remained heavily guarded. Undercover officers were also directed to keep a vigilant eye out for suspicious behavior and discarded belongings.

Meanwhile, the sporadic crackdowns continued in several areas of the city with police officials arresting all individuals unable to provide ready identification.

Despite the measures, the SP refused to rule out the possibility of another attack. The Data Darbar, the Badshahi Mosque, and the shrine of Bibian Pakdaman have been declared highly vulnerable.

Aslam Tareen, the Capital City Police Officer (CCPO), stated that the police has ensured every possibly security measure to avert another terrorist attack. He stated that police mobiles would patrol the city streets throughout the night and all vehicles would be thoroughly checked.
