Hungry
LONDON:
This is with reference to Zahrah Nasir’s “Hungry” (July 9). While our politicians, bureaucrats, and generals are stuffing themselves silly, most people are starving and queuing up for free food. However, one of our more astute parliamentarians noted, that if God wills it, then people commit suicide out of hunger, insinuating that the government is not responsible for their welfare.
With such a state of affairs one would like to think that Ramazan would perhaps make the ruling elite develop some sense of appreciation for what most citizens go through.
Instead, what one usually sees in Ramazan is a never-ending round of iftar dinners held at various levels of the government and all this does is cause waste.
