New chief for Pakistan Navy
The newly-appointed naval chief called on President Asif Ali Zardari at the presidency, where the latter congratulated him on his promotion. The two also discussed matters relating to the navy during the meeting.
Meanwhile, the outgoing chief of naval staff paid a farewell call to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani at the Prime Minister House.
Admiral Sandila was commissioned in the operations branch of the navy in 1975.
The officer has held appointments which include Command of a guided missile Destroyer PNS BADR and 25th Destroyer Squadron. He was also director-general Maritime Security Agency and Commander Logistics.
Sandila commanded the navy fleet from Oct 2008 to Nov 2009. He is a recipient of the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military).

Mr. Asif Sandila was my neighbor , his son my classmate and my bro has served under him so i personally know the family really well..I must say he is a very competent person for the job though he was unfit for the position due to cardiac issues, But still, way better than Noman Bashir

@Chengez K: excellent! being a patriotic Pakistani I wish same must be applied to all other armed forces. they got the other jobs and they can do it, please leave welfare projects to concerned authorities. Anyone who says concerned authorities are incompetent; then I would ask which war we have won till date?

What was wrong with the old one? What's Rs 100 billion between friends.
What happpened at Mehran Base? More promotions and titles of Admiral. What is the criteria of calling a general or Admiral beside long history of benefits? They are all promoted to higher levels of incompetence.
Adm Nauman Bashir should have been fired or forced to resign for the PNS Mehran fiasco. Not only was that a failure in competence but also morally as not a single senior PN officer took responsibility for that failure that resulted in over 10 dead and the single biggest financial and material loss to the PN since the 1971 war!!!!
What a fiasco the tenure of Nauman Bashir has been for the PN!
Hopefully the new naval chief would be a fighting force chief rather than welfare organization chief!!!
