MARDAN: Militants blew up a primary and a high school building with explosives in Mardan’s Katlang Shamozai area, Express 24/7 reported on Wednesday.

The security forces cordoned off the area after the bombing and started gathering evidences from the site.

Meanwhile, police has registered a case against unknown perpetrators and started an investigation into the attacks.

Earlier last month, Taliban insurgents ambushed a school bus, killing four pupils and the driver in a hail of bullets and rocket fire in Peshawar’s suburban Mattani area. Another 18 people, including four children, two of them seven-year-old girls, were also wounded in the attack.

The children studied at Khyber Model School Zangli, an elite English-language school in the Badabher area. The Taliban are opposed to Western-imported education and have destroyed hundreds of schools in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and adjoining tribal regions.

Do we not know that children are the future of any nation and that education is the most important tool for them to succeed in today’s world? Do you see Taliban banning education for girls, limiting boys from gaining knowledge in sciences, social sciences and arts, and blowing up schools and killing morally pure school children? Does this not hurt the future of Pakistan?

Gallup reports that Pakistan scores on the World Poll Youth Development Index, which includes general measures of development of youth, respect for youth, and satisfaction with the education system, have been increasing since the end of 2009. Pakistan increased from a score of 53 out of 100 in December 2009 to 66 out of 100 in May 2011. This is a much needed positive sign for Pakistani youth, who will one day lead the country and care for their elders. Unfortunately, continued harassment and targeting of youth and schools by extremists put these gains in jeopardy.

TTP are no friends of Pakistan and their actions prove once again that they do not want Pakistan to be among the educated and prosperous nations. Neutralizing TTP and their fundamentalist ideology is the only way Pakistan can keep its future alive.
