Prime Minister (PM) Yousaf Raza Gilani on Tuesday advised young graduates of Insitute of Space Technology to work hard and extensively employ space technology applications for socio-economic development in the country. He also stated that it was “immensely satisfying to see the Institute of Space Technology (IST) emerging as a renowned seat of learning within nine years”, according to a press release issued by IST on Tuesday.

Forty students, 20 each in Aerospace Engineering and Communications Systems Engineering, graduated from IST on Tuesday.

PM Gilani, the chief guest, conferred bachelor’s degrees to the students. Additionally, he conferred gold medals to Tanzeelur Rehman from Aerospace Engineering and Ubaid Bashir Awan from Communications Systems Engineering for graduating first in their respective programmes. Rehman and Hamdan Ajmal Khana from Aersospace Engineering; Syed Akhlaq Hussain Shah and Ali Ahmed from Communications Systems Engineering were awarded Vice Chancellor’s Medals for best final year projects.

He commended the high standards of education at the institute noting that these were responsible for the high employment rate of its graduates.

Vice-Chancellor Imran Rahman highlighted the contributions of IST including the development of IST’s PICO satellite - iCUBE, emphasising that the satellite would be launched early next year. This would make IST the first university in Pakistan to successfully launch a student satellite, he said.
