ISLAMABAD:

Four majors general have been promoted to the rank of lieutenant generals in what appears to be a step towards the likely reshuffle in the army corps commanders over the next few days.

Those, who have been promoted include: Director General Rangers Sindh Maj-Gen Ijaz Chaudhry, Deputy Chief of General Staff at CGS Branch GHQ Maj-Gen Nasser Khan Janjua, GOC 22nd Division Sargodha Maj-Gen Tariq Nadeem Gilani and Chief Instructor at NDU Islamabad Maj-Gen Naweed Zaman, military officials said on Tuesday.

The development came just ahead of the retirement of five three-star generals next month. It is expected that the newly promoted major generals would fill in the slots of the outgoing senior army officers.

A military official said a reshuffle in the corps commanders could not be ruled out after the fresh army promotions and retirements.

The three-star generals, who will retire next month include: Commander of Southern Command Lt-Gen Javed Zia, Military Secretary GHQ Lt-Gen Mohsin Kamal, POF Chairman Lt-Gen Shujaat Zamir Dar, Commander Army Strategic Forces Command Lt-Gen Jamil Haider and Surgeon General/DG Medical Services (Inter-Services) Lt-Gen Muhammad Rehan Burney.
