Adam Driver has confirmed that he will not reprise his role in HBO’s upcoming Girls revival, ending speculation about whether the actor would return for the limited series.

During an interview with CinemaBlend, published on November 6, Driver was asked whether audiences could expect to see him again as Adam Sackler. The actor gave a brief response, making his position clear while wishing the returning cast well.

"No, but I wish them the best of luck," he said.

Driver portrayed Adam Sackler throughout all six seasons of Girls, which ran from 2012 to 2017. His character was an on-and-off romantic partner of Hannah Horvath, played by series creator Lena Dunham.

The upcoming revival was announced in October, with several original cast members confirmed to return. Dunham, Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, Zosia Mamet and Andrew Rannells are all expected to appear in the five-episode limited series.

Driver’s absence means audiences will not see the original central relationship between Adam and Hannah continue in the new instalment.

The announcement also comes after Dunham discussed her difficult experiences working with Driver on the original programme in her 2026 memoir, Famesick. She alleged that the actor had a temper on set and recalled an incident in which he threw a chair against a wall near her.

In an interview with The Guardian in April, Dunham reflected on how she struggled to address his behaviour at the time.

However, Driver’s latest comments did not provide a reason for his decision to stay away from the revival.

Dunham will executive produce the project alongside Judd Apatow, Ilene S Landress and Michael P Cohen. Williams, Kirke, Mamet and Rannells will also serve as co-executive producers.

Production is scheduled to begin in 2027. HBO has not announced a premiere date.
