The Sindh High Court has ordered the removal of encroachments and illegal constructions from a park in Scheme 33, where land, allegedly reserved for public recreation, was occupied and buildings erected.X
Petitioner's counsel, Usman Farooq Advocate, argued that the illegal constructions posed a serious threat to human lives. He said K-Electric installations were also located at the site and the power utility had written to the relevant authorities warning of potential hazards caused by the construction work.
The counsel requested the court to order the immediate demolition of illegal structures in Sector 15-A and restrain the builder from carrying out further construction and booking units in the building.
The court observed that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) should assist the relevant authorities in removing encroachments and restoring the park.
The court also sought a compliance report from the deputy commissioner east and revenue authorities by January 20.
Meanwhile, a Malir civil court has directed its court bailiff to get an eight-acre plot worth hundreds of millions of rupees in Scheme 33 vacated with police assistance within seven days.
Two brothers, Haris and Hamza, had approached the Model Civil Court Malir against the alleged illegal occupation of their valuable land.
In their petition, they submitted that land grabbers had occupied their eight-acre property in Scheme 33 and alleged that the police were also assisting the encroachers. The court ordered the SSP east to provide the necessary police force to facilitate the implementation of the order.
