Vote counting for the presidential seat in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) annual elections has been completed, and Syed Amjad Ali Shah, the candidate of the Ahsan Bhoon group, has been elected president, according to unofficial results.

According to unofficial results, Independent Group presidential candidate Syed Amjad Shah won with 644 votes from Lahore, while Professional Group candidate Sardar Aman Khan secured 400 votes.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday congratulated the Independent Group on its victory in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections, extending special felicitations to its leaders Azam Nazeer Tarar and Ahsan Bhoon.

The prime minister also congratulated newly elected SCBA President Syed Amjad Shah and other office-bearers, expressing his best wishes for their future endeavours, a Prime Minister's Office news release said.

The prime minister said the government had always regarded the legal fraternity as an important partner in the reform process and would continue to do so.

He also praised the leadership of the Independent Group, particularly Azam Nazeer Tarar and Ahsan Bhoon, for their efforts, advocacy for lawyers' rights and initiatives aimed at their welfare.
