VEHARI:

A labourer died after suffering a suspected heart attack outside a police station in Vehari after traffic police impounded his motorcycle for alleged traffic violations, triggering questions about heavy fines and enforcement procedures.

The deceased, identified as Zulfiqar Ali, reportedly arrived at the police station to retrieve his motorcycle after it had been impounded over his alleged inability to pay the fine. He collapsed near the station gate after his health suddenly deteriorated.

According to police, he was immediately shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, where he died despite medical assistance.

Preliminary information suggests that he suffered a heart attack, although the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.

A police spokesperson said traffic personnel had stopped Zulfiqar at Khanewal Chowk in Vehari during routine checking for violations of traffic rules. He was allegedly riding without a helmet and the required motorcycle documents.

The traffic police subsequently imposed a fine and impounded his motorcycle, which was taken to the police station.

Zulfiqar later went to the station to retrieve his vehicle but reportedly collapsed at the entrance after his condition suddenly worsened.
