Dancing With the Stars contestant Connor Wood has revealed that he has reached out to Jennifer Lawrence after the actress playfully called him out for ignoring her during a chance encounter in New York City.

The comedian, 31, spoke about the viral interaction following the show’s Horror Movie Night on Tuesday, October 27, telling Us Weekly that he and his team had contacted the Oscar-winning actress.

“We’ve reached out,” Wood said. “She’s so busy. She just launched a hair care brand, and I hope that is just amazing. It looks so good. Can’t wait to get my hands on it.”

Wood, who is competing on season 35 of Dancing With the Stars alongside professional dancer Rylee Arnold, also joked about the unexpected acknowledgement from his celebrity crush.

“I’m so proud of you, Jennifer. I get to call her Jennifer,” he said.

The exchange began when Wood revealed his admiration for Lawrence during an interview with BuzzFeed Celeb. Speaking alongside Arnold, the comedian said he wanted the Hunger Games star to acknowledge that he was funny.

“I just want just a little acknowledgment from Jennifer Lawrence that I’m funny,” he said.

Lawrence, who recently joined Instagram, responded to the video in the comments section, revealing that she had previously seen Wood on Eighth Avenue in New York City while he was drinking a smoothie.

“I saw you on 8th avenue drinking a smoothie and you paid me no mind,” she wrote.

Wood shared the comment on his Instagram Stories, joking that he was going to bed. Arnold also captured his reaction in a TikTok video filmed during their dance rehearsals, showing him lying face down on the floor before reading Lawrence’s message.

The comedian was visibly stunned as he realised he had missed an opportunity to meet the actress in person. Arnold reassured him that Lawrence was joking and had recognised him during their encounter.

Wood later explained that he regularly buys smoothies on Eighth Avenue and was likely too focused on his drink to notice Lawrence.

The viral moment has since become a running joke between the dance partners, with Arnold teasing Wood about his missed encounter.

The pair also had a milestone to celebrate during Horror Movie Night, earning their first perfect 10s of the season for a contemporary routine inspired by Annabelle: Creation.

Wood said the moment had taken up a significant part of their rehearsal time, joking that lying on the floor after seeing Lawrence’s comment had perhaps made him stronger.

Looking ahead, Wood said he was excited for the next week’s Disney Night and did not feel pressure to match the success of their previous performance, as the upcoming dance would be very different.

Dancing With the Stars airs Tuesdays on ABC and Disney+.
