Matt Reeves remains the film’s director, with the studio backing his temporary production arrangement

Robert Pattinson has praised Steven Soderbergh for stepping in to help complete principal photography on The Batman Part II while director Matt Reeves takes time away for a family matter.
Speaking to GamesRadar+, Pattinson described Soderbergh’s offer to assist Reeves as “completely selfless”, expressing gratitude that the acclaimed filmmaker had agreed to help the production move forward.
“I am so happy he’s come on to help Matt,” Pattinson said. He added that Soderbergh was approaching the task generously, working alongside Reeves to help bring the project to the editing stage. Pattinson also praised the director’s talent and acknowledged the substantial work Reeves had already invested in the script.
Pattinson indicated that filming was expected to resume imminently, telling the publication that production was already under way and that he would begin work again within days.
Warner Bros. announced on October 5 that production had been temporarily paused while Reeves focused on a family matter. The studio did not disclose further details, but confirmed that Reeves had its full support.
Reeves subsequently clarified that he had not left the project and remained its director. He thanked Soderbergh for helping him complete principal photography during a challenging period.
DC Studios co-chief James Gunn also reassured fans that Reeves remained in charge of the sequel and praised Soderbergh’s offer to help realise the director’s vision.
Soderbergh said his aim was to work with Reeves and the existing team to create footage that would fit seamlessly with material already filmed, allowing Reeves to finish the movie as intended.
The Batman Part II is scheduled for release on February 18, 2028. The cast includes Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Colin Farrell, Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright.
