PESHAWAR:

Authorities have decided to launch a large-scale operation against encroachments across Peshawar. Police and other law-enforcement agencies have been brought on board for the drive. Illegal constructions in the city have already been identified.

Special focus will be placed on making Qissa Khwani Bazaar and other historic markets of the inner city more organised, clean, spacious and people-friendly.

Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Afaq Wazir, accompanied by officers from law-enforcement agencies, visited Qissa Khwani Bazaar and other key markets of the walled city. During the visit, the team assessed the extent of encroachments, public movement, traffic flow, sanitation and the overall condition of the bazaars. Officials also discussed plans for modernisation, beautification and renovation of the markets.

The purpose of the visit was to make the historic bazaars more orderly, hygienic, open and citizen-friendly, improve facilities for the public and create a more conducive environment for business activity.

The Deputy Commissioner directed relevant officials to take effective measures for the removal of encroachments and to keep pedestrian pathways free of all obstacles. He stressed the need for a coordinated strategy to improve traffic flow, cleanliness and overall discipline in the markets.
