James Cameron’s The Terminator franchise has experienced a rise in streaming viewership and revenue amid growing public concern about artificial intelligence, according to data from Parrot Analytics.

The franchise has generated nearly $300 million in global streaming subscriber revenue since 2020, making it the leading performer among several science-fiction properties exploring the risks of advanced technology.

The Matrix has generated $132 million over the same period, while Blade Runner has earned $56 million.

Parrot Analytics’ Streaming Economics model estimates that four science-fiction franchises have collectively generated more than $500 million in global subscriber revenue during this period.

The report links renewed interest in these films to real-world discussions about AI, artificial general intelligence and deepfakes.

In the United States, The Terminator franchise had accumulated $169 million in streaming revenue by the first quarter of 2026.

The data shows a sharp acceleration in revenue growth beginning in early 2023, around the time ChatGPT brought generative AI into mainstream public discussion.

Audience demand for the films has also increased. In 2023, the original The Terminator ranked 20th among the most in-demand films released before 2000 in the United States. By 2026, it had risen to sixth place in the same category.

The change has been even more pronounced globally for Terminator 2: Judgment Day. The 1991 film moved from 40th place among the world’s most in-demand classic films in 2023 to second place in 2026, according to the report.

The figures suggest that attention towards artificial intelligence may be contributing to the commercial performance of older science-fiction films.
