Amy Winehouse musical in development for London’s West End
Producer Catherine Schreiber is attached to the early stage project, with casting reportedly under way

A musical celebrating Amy Winehouse’s life and music is in development for London’s West End, with the project reportedly involving her father, Mitch Winehouse.
According to Variety, Tony Award-winning producer Catherine Schreiber, whose credits include Cabaret and Rent, is attached to the production. Casting is reportedly under way, although the project remains in its early stages. Details about the creative team, storyline and potential opening date have not yet been announced.
Mitch Winehouse is also said to be involved, raising the possibility that the musical will feature some of the late singer’s best-known songs. Her record label has been approached for comment, but further official details have not been confirmed.
The development follows years of discussion about bringing Winehouse’s story to the stage. In a 2017 interview, Mitch expressed his support for a musical that would celebrate his daughter’s life and music, saying he wanted audiences to remember her for her talent rather than focus solely on her struggles.
Winehouse died in 2011, aged 27, leaving behind a celebrated catalogue that includes the albums Frank and Back to Black. The latter, released in 2006, helped establish her as one of the defining British singers of her generation.
Interest in her music remains strong. The 20th anniversary of Back to Black was recently marked with a tribute concert at London’s Roundhouse, featuring performances by Jorja Smith, Mark Ronson, Lianne La Havas and Corinne Bailey Rae.
An expanded edition of the album is also scheduled for release on October 23, featuring previously unreleased demos, B-sides and a recording of a 2007 performance at Amsterdam’s Paradiso.
Winehouse’s life has already been explored through screen projects, including Asif Kapadia’s acclaimed 2015 documentary Amy and the 2024 biopic Back to Black, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson.
If the West End production proceeds, it will add another major project to the singer’s posthumous legacy. However, its final format, casting and production schedule remain unconfirmed.
