'Carrie' renewed for season 2 by Prime Video after strong debut
Prime Video renews Mike Flanagan’s 'Carrie' for season 2 after strong reviews, with Summer H. Howell set to return

Prime Video has renewed Carrie, Mike Flanagan’s adaptation of Stephen King’s horror classic, for season 2 following the strong reception of its debut season.
The renewal was announced on October 22, just two weeks after the eight-episode first season premiered on October 7. The series stars Summer H. Howell as Carrie White and marks another collaboration between Flanagan and King, who both serve as executive producers.
Since its release, Carrie has topped Prime Video’s weekly global television rankings, reaching number one in more than 105 countries. According to Luminate, the series recorded 653,000 US views during its first two days of availability and 3.6 million views during its first full week.
Peter Friedlander, head of global television at Amazon MGM Studios, said the series had connected with longtime Stephen King fans as well as younger and international audiences. He also highlighted its appeal among female viewers.
The renewal comes after season 1 departed from the ending of King’s original novel, leaving the story open for further development. In the finale, Carrie survives the events of prom night and leaves town in a car with her friend Emaline, played by Thalia Dudek.
Flanagan said the creative team had envisioned a story extending beyond the events of the prom, expressing gratitude for King’s support in exploring Carrie’s future.
King also welcomed the renewal, saying he was excited for audiences to discover what lies ahead for the character.
Howell is expected to return for season 2, with Dudek also among the potential returning cast members. Other characters who survived the first season’s prom night massacre could feature in the next instalment.
Prime Video has teased further revelations, major character developments and unexpected twists in the upcoming season. However, an official release date and complete cast list have yet to be announced.
