K/DA’s Firestarter reaches 3m views within six hours of release

K/DA’s new song Firestarter surpasses 3m YouTube views within six hours of release, as fans celebrate comeback

K/DA has returned with its new song ‘Firestarter’, with fans celebrating the virtual League of Legends girl group’s comeback after a six-year wait. The music video surpassed three million YouTube views within six hours of its release on October 19.

The virtual K-pop group features League of Legends characters voiced by real-world singers. K/DA originally teamed up with I-dle members Miyeon and Soyeon, Madison Beer and Jaira Burns for its debut single, ‘Pop/Stars’, which has accumulated more than 668 million YouTube views.

The group followed the single with its 2020 EP, ‘All Out’, before going on hiatus from new releases. ‘Firestarter’ marks its first major musical comeback since then, introducing new vocalists alongside returning performers.

Miyeon and Soyeon reprise their roles as the voices of Ahri and Akali, respectively, while Sophie Powers and Mimi Webb join the group as the voices of Evelynn and Kai’Sa.

The ‘Firestarter’ music video was produced in collaboration with Fortiche, the animation studio known for its work on the League of Legends series Arcane and K/DA’s original ‘Pop/Stars’ video.

Fans have praised the comeback, highlighting the animation and vocal performances. “They really said, ‘here’s the company card, impress them’. K/DA, you are worth ALL THE waiting,” one commenter wrote.

Another viewer celebrated the returning I-dle members, saying, “Cannot believe this is the quality of work Soyeon and Miyeon put in at a side gig. I-dle fans stay winning.”

A further fan commented, “Six years later and K/DA still holds the throne. Miyeon and Soyeon together on a track is always an instant masterpiece. Firestarter is a literal banger.”

Although it remains to be seen whether ‘Firestarter’ will match the popularity of ‘Pop/Stars’, its early viewing figures indicate strong interest in K/DA’s return.
