Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya to lead Prime Video’s ‘Fourth Wing’ adaptation
Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya to star as Violet and Xaden in Prime Video’s upcoming ‘Fourth Wing’ series

Prime Video has cast Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya as Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson in its upcoming Fourth Wing television adaptation, based on Rebecca Yarros’ bestselling fantasy novel.
McGregor, known for We Were Liars and Babygirl, will play Violet, while Sakraya, whose credits include Those About to Die and Warrior Nun, will portray Xaden. The characters share an enemies-to-lovers relationship in Yarros’ novel.
Amazon declined to comment on the casting, according to Deadline.
The Fourth Wing series follows Violet as she enters Basgiath War College after her mother, General Lilith Sorrengail, forces her to abandon her plans to become a Scribe. Instead, Violet must train to become a dragon rider in Navarre, where candidates face dangerous trials and the risk of death.
At the college, she encounters Xaden, a mysterious cadet from a rebellious family who possesses shadow-wielding powers. The story explores the dangerous bond between dragon riders and their dragons, with survival depending on their ability to endure the brutal training.
Amazon MGM Studios acquired the television rights to Yarros’ Empyrean book series in 2023. Prime Video officially greenlit the adaptation in May 2026, with Meredith Averill serving as showrunner and executive producer. Lisa Joy is set to direct the series premiere and executive produce alongside Jonathan Nolan and other members of the production team.
The Empyrean series currently includes Fourth Wing, Iron Flame and Onyx Storm. Yarros is working on a fourth novel, with a fifth book also planned. The television adaptation could span multiple seasons if successful.
The series is produced by Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, Kilter Films and Premeditated Productions.
McGregor is also filming Prime Video’s Life Is Strange, while Sakraya recently completed work on the third season of Netflix’s One Piece, in which he plays Koza.
