KARACHI:

The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Universities and Boards Department to recover Rs84 million in security deposit funds from Quaid-e-Awam University and transfer the amount to Aror University, Sukkur, which was upgraded from Sindh College of Art and Design in 2020.

The committee also directed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to deduct the amount at source from Quaid-e-Awam University's funding and transfer it to Aror University if the funds were not released.

The PAC meeting, chaired by Nisar Khuhro, was held on Wednesday. Committee member Qasim Siraj Soomro, the vice-chancellor of Aror University and officials of the Sindh Higher Education Commission attended the meeting.

The committee reviewed audit objections concerning Aror University for the period from 2021 to 2023.

The vice-chancellor of Aror University informed the PAC that, in 2025, a committee headed by the special secretary of the Universities and Boards Department had issued directions to the vice-chancellor of Quaid-e-Awam University and the Sindh Higher Education Commission for the transfer of the funds. However, the amount had still not been released.

Taking notice of the delay, the PAC ordered the Universities and Boards Department to ensure the transfer of Rs84 million to Aror University.
