Kelly Clarkson vs Art of Play: Footage revealed as store lists bird for $15m, owner blasts singer for 'social warfare'
'Kelly Clarkson has put us in danger', co-owner Adam Rubin claimed, criticising the singer for the fallout of her post

Security footage of Kelly Clarkson’s visit to Brooklyn curiosity shop Art of Play has emerged amid a dispute over an animatronic singing bird, with the store’s co-owner claiming the singer’s social media criticism has put staff at risk.
The footage, released by Pablo Torre, host of the investigative podcast Pablo Torre Finds Out, shows a woman identified as Clarkson entering the shop with her children, browsing items and speaking briefly with an employee near the bird, known as Molly.
The visit lasts less than five minutes. The video does not establish precisely what was said during their conversation.
Clarkson previously accused an employee of giving her the “Pretty Woman” treatment when she asked about the bird, which she said carried a $15,000 price tag.
She claimed the employee condescendingly offered to find something comparable. Art of Play disputed her account, stating that Molly was permanently attached to the wall and was not for sale.
According to USA TODAY, co-owner Adam Rubin subsequently listed the bird for $15 million following the controversy.
He said the store had experienced increased sales and foot traffic alongside threatening messages, negative reviews and harassment affecting neighbouring businesses.
“We are afraid for the safety of our shopkeepers. Kelly Clarkson has put us in danger,” Rubin told Inside Edition, describing the fallout as “social warfare”.
Rubin maintained that the shop had treated Clarkson like any other customer during a busy period.
Clarkson, meanwhile, challenged the store’s explanation, insisting that an employee had pointed to the price tag during their exchange.
The dispute has divided online audiences, with some supporting Clarkson’s account and others criticising her decision to publicly identify the small business.
The released footage has added context, but the disagreement over the interaction remains unresolved.
