The Pakistan Army on Tuesday conducted a successful test launch of the hypersonic ballistic missile Fatah-2 extended range, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement, adding that the weapon system was equipped with advanced navigation and state-of-the-art avionics.

"It is capable of engaging targets with high precision and defeating the enemy's missile defence systems due to its unique trajectory and manoeuvrability features. Fatah-2 ER, with its extended range, will further enhance the army's reach and capability of engaging deep targets," said the military's media wing.

The launch was witnessed by the commander of the Army Rocket Force Command (Comd ARFC), senior officers from the Pakistan Army and committed scientists and engineers, the ISPR said, adding that the ARFC commander "appreciated the dedication and technical prowess of scientists and engineers."

The statement also noted that President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, along with service chiefs, congratulated the scientists and engineers on the successful test launch.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi congratulated the nation on the successful test launch, stating that the scientists and engineers of the Pakistan Army had achieved a commendable feat. He added that the test was a significant development in the defence sector.

Last week, an indigenously developed extended version of the Fatah-4 ground-launched cruise missile was successfully test launched. The weapon system was equipped with advanced avionics and state-of-the-art navigational aids and could engage targets at extended ranges with "high precision and lethality," the ISPR had said.

The test also validated additional "technical parameters" of various sub-systems incorporated for improved accuracy and enhanced survivability, it added.

In September 2025, the Pakistan Army had successfully conducted a training launch of its newly developed Fatah-4 at a range of 750 kilometres. The Fatah-4 is designed to evade enemy missile defence systems due to its terrain-hugging capabilities, ensuring high precision when engaging targets. The missile’s features enhance its lethality and survivability, boosting the effectiveness of Pakistan’s conventional missile systems.
