RAWALPINDI:

Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir has emphasised Pakistan's commitment to strengthening defence ties with Brazil, the military's media wing said on Monday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Munir made the remarks during a meeting with a high-level Brazilian military delegation led by Admiral Renato Rodrigues De Aguiar Freire, Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces of Brazil, at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi.

The two sides discussed matters of mutual interest, the regional security environment and avenues for enhancing bilateral defence and security cooperation. "They expressed satisfaction with the longstanding cordial relations between Pakistan and Brazil and agreed to further strengthen military-to-military collaboration," it added.

The visiting dignitary was presented with a guard of honour by a tri-services contingent upon his arrival at GHQ.

ISPR said Admiral Freire appreciated the professionalism and operational preparedness of the Pakistan Armed Forces and acknowledged their contributions towards regional peace and stability.

The visit reflects the shared resolve of Pakistan and Brazil to deepen defence cooperation and strengthen bilateral military ties, the statement added.

Three days ago, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Bahrain Dr Abdullatif Bin Rashid Al Zayani also met with CDF Syed Asim Munir at GHQ to discuss matters of mutual interest and strengthening of bilateral cooperation.

Before that, on October 7, a high-level delegation from the Republic of Belarus led by Lieutenant General Aleksandr Volfovich, State Secretary of the Security Council of the Republic of Belarus, also called on CDF Munir at the GHQ in Rawalpindi.

During the meeting, both sides discussed the evolving regional and global security, among other matters of mutual interest.
