Soulja Boy teases plans to take part in US presidential run in 2028 on Instagram
The announcement follows his appearance at the Crypto Ball held around Trump's inauguration in January 2025

Rapper Soulja Boy has sparked speculation about a potential 2028 presidential campaign after sharing a social media post outlining his ambitions for public service and a broader vision for the future.
The "Crank That" hitmaker, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, posted "SOULJA BOY 2028" on Instagram on Saturday, October 10.
The post highlighted four areas of interest: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education, and the future of technology and artificial intelligence.
The rapper described the idea as a possible new direction in his career, which has included ventures across music, business and technology.
"From music to business to technology, I’ve always believed in thinking bigger and challenging what’s possible," he wrote. "Now I’m exploring what it means to bring that same vision to public service. The future starts with a conversation."
It remains unclear whether Soulja Boy intends to launch a formal presidential campaign or is simply considering the possibility.
His post did not outline specific policies or provide details about a potential campaign.
The announcement follows his appearance at the Crypto Ball, held during events surrounding Donald Trump's inauguration in January 2025.
The rapper subsequently addressed criticism of his performance, saying he had been paid well for the appearance.
Soulja Boy's interest in politics has also featured in popular culture.
In 2019, Saturday Night Live parodied his viral interview with The Breakfast Club in a sketch imagining him running for president.
The rapper rose to prominence in 2007 when "Crank That (Soulja Boy)" spent seven non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, establishing him as an early success story in internet-driven music promotion.
