ISLAMABAD:

"Amir Khusrau," the latest stage production by renowned writer and director Asma Butt, who holds the unique distinction of bringing historical figures and the Subcontinent's rich Sufi and literary heritage to life on stage, has captivated the hearts of the audience.

Presented by Dolphin Communications at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA), the play received immense acclaim. At the conclusion of the play, the audience gave a standing ovation, applauding at length to honour Asma Butt, writer Arshad Chahal and the entire cast.

In fact, the play "Hazrat Amir Khusrau" managed to sustain the audience's interest throughout its performance as the spectators frequently expressed their appreciation for the artists' superb acting, the dialogue and the overall presentation.

Speaking to the media, director Asma Butt noted that Amir Khusrau was a towering figure in the subcontinent who was celebrated as a great Sufi, poet and musician. A disciple of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, he left a profound impact on the literary and cultural traditions of the region through his poetry in Persian and Hindavi. His mystical poetry remains an integral part of the Qawwali and musical tradition to this day.

While thanking the guests, Asma Butt mentioned that during a tour to India, where she was staging a play about Shah Hussain Madho Lal, she had the opportunity to visit the shrine of Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya. Hearing the mystical verses of Hazrat Amir Khusrau there further solidified her resolve to bring his persona and artistry to the stage. She stated that "Amir Khusrau" is the result of a collaborative effort and that she considers it her responsibility to introduce historical and cultural figures to the new generation.

On this occasion, guests and audience members praised Asma Butt's efforts to promote Pakistani culture and lauded the artists' outstanding performances. They remarked that by staging a play on Amir Khusrau—following productions based on Shah Hussain Madho Lal, Heer Waris Shah, Saif-ul-Malook, and Dulla Bhatti—Asma Butt has carried forward a unique artistic tradition.

The play was written by Arshad Chahal and directed by Asma Ismail Butt. The cast included Kaleem Khan, Shahid Mughal, Sabir Khan, Shabbir Shah, Imran Rushdi, Neelam Arshad, Javeria, Noor Shararti, Khalil Noor, Faran Bajwa, Liaquat Shah, Noor Jahan, Simran Ali, Alisha Jahangir, Alishba Jahangir, Shazia Adeeb, and other artists. The choreography was done by Azeem Haidri.
