The Bachelor is reportedly considering internet-famous doctor Mike Varshavski as a potential lead for its upcoming 30th season as the dating reality show looks to return to its earlier format.

Varshavski, known online as Dr. Mike, has reportedly been contacted by producers, according to a source cited by Page Six. The 36-year-old family medicine physician became widely known online for sharing health-related content and was named People’s “Sexiest Doctor Alive” in 2015.

Dr. Mike has built a significant social media following, with about 15.1 million YouTube subscribers and 6 million Instagram followers. His online popularity could make him a recognisable choice for The Bachelor, which is reportedly seeking a lead with an established career and genuine interest in finding a relationship.

The show is preparing for its 30th season, which is expected to premiere in 2027. Producers are reportedly looking for someone “successful” and “charming” who is seriously interested in finding love rather than using the series primarily to build an influencer career.

The reported casting search comes as The Bachelor attempts to revive its audience after years of declining ratings. The franchise has also faced criticism over contestants and leads allegedly joining for increased visibility and career opportunities.

Grant Ellis, the franchise’s most recent Bachelor, was accused by a contestant of “clout chasing”, although such claims were disputed.

The franchise first premiered in 2002 and has since expanded to include The Bachelorette, Bachelor in Paradise and The Golden Bachelor.

A new casting team was reportedly brought in earlier this year as producers sought a fresh direction for the long-running series. Representatives for The Bachelor did not comment on the reported interest in Dr. Mike.
