Civil servants told to declare citizenship
Government sets one-week deadline under new foreign citizenship rules

ISLAMABAD:
The government has decided to enforce the Foreign Citizenship Rules 2026, directing civil servants to submit declarations detailing any foreign citizenship held by themselves or their dependants within one week.
The Establishment Division, through an office memorandum, directed civil servants to provide details of foreign citizenship, foreign travel documents and marriages to foreign nationals. The directive applies to officers holding dual nationality and requires them to furnish the relevant information within the stipulated one-week deadline.
The Establishment Division warned that failure to comply with the instructions or submission of incorrect information could result in departmental action against the concerned officer. It said officers who failed to submit the required declaration within the given timeframe would face proceedings under the Civil Servants (Efficiency and Discipline) Rules 2020.
The submission of a false declaration would also be treated as misconduct and could lead to disciplinary proceedings against the civil servant concerned. The move comes as the government begins implementation of the Foreign Citizenship Rules 2026, with officers required to provide complete and accurate information within the prescribed deadline.
