Michael B. Jordan’s 'Battlefield' movie finds a potential home at Sony
Sony Pictures is in talks to land the 'Battlefield' movie, with Michael B. Jordan and Christopher McQuarrie attached

Sony Pictures has emerged as the leading bidder for the upcoming Battlefield movie based on Electronic Arts’ popular video game franchise, according to TheWrap.
The studio is in talks to acquire the film package, which has attracted bids from Warner Bros. Discovery, Amazon MGM Studios, Universal and Netflix. Christopher McQuarrie is attached to write, direct and produce the Battlefield adaptation, while Michael B. Jordan is set to produce and could potentially star in the film.
The project is being produced by Jesse Stern of Electronic Arts, Carter Swan of Emerald Neon, Roy Lee and Miri Yoon of Vertigo and Elizabeth Raposo of Outlier Society.
The Battlefield video game franchise began with Battlefield 1942, which was released for PC and Mac in 2002. The series has since expanded across consoles and explored military conflicts and settings ranging from the Vietnam War to futuristic battlefields.
The latest instalment, Battlefield 6, was released in 2025 and reportedly became the bestselling game in the franchise. Its commercial performance helped fuel plans to develop a major Hollywood adaptation of the EA franchise.
The Battlefield movie is part of a growing wave of video game adaptations being developed for theatrical and streaming audiences. The project also arrives as Paramount prepares a feature adaptation of rival franchise Call of Duty, with Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg attached to write and Berg set to direct.
Michael B. Jordan is coming off his work on Sinners, which earned him an Oscar win, while McQuarrie is known for his work on the Mission: Impossible franchise.
Sony Pictures declined TheWrap’s request for comment. Further details about the Battlefield movie, including its cast and release date, have not yet been announced.
