Punjab puts drones on 30-day timeout

The Punjab Home Department has imposed a 30-day ban on outdoor drone flights across the province under Section 144 due to security concerns.

According to a spokesperson, limited use of small drones will be allowed for coverage of events held inside halls and marquees, with organisers responsible for their safe operation. Intelligence and law enforcement agencies have been exempted from the ban.

The department has established district "Safe Drone Usage Committees" to regulate the use of the equipment.

Written permission for agricultural and research purposes may be granted by the committees.

The home secretary has issued the notification imposing the ban under Section 144(6) of the Criminal Procedure Code, 1898.

The department directed all district administrations and police across the province to ensure strict implementation of the orders.
