Tom Cruise has no plans to slow down his acting career as he approaches another major milestone, saying there is always “another mountain” and “a new adventure” ahead.

The 64-year-old actor spoke to PEOPLE at the Los Angeles premiere of his upcoming film Digger on September 28, reflecting on his decades in Hollywood and the collaborators who have shaped his approach to filmmaking.

Cruise recalled working with Paul Newman on Martin Scorsese’s 1986 film The Color of Money, noting that Newman was also 64 when they made the movie. He said his experiences with Newman and other filmmakers have influenced how he views art, life and cinema.

The Top Gun star also discussed his work with director Michael Mann on Collateral and his desire to continue exploring different genres rather than limiting himself to action films. Cruise said he has spent his career “absorbing humanity” and wants to reflect that through cinema.

Looking ahead, Cruise has several projects on the horizon, including a new Days of Thunder film with Anne Hathaway, which is scheduled for 2028. He is also currently promoting Digger, directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu.

“I feel it to be a great privilege,” Cruise said of his career and collaborations. He later added that there is “always another mountain” and “always a new adventure” for him.

Digger, which also stars Riz Ahmed, Sandra Hüller, John Goodman and Jesse Plemons, is scheduled to arrive in cinemas and IMAX on October 2.
