Ali Hazelwood announces 'The Love Hypothesis' sequel and new film adaptation

Author Ali Hazelwood is continuing the story of Olive Smith and Adam Carlsen with a new sequel to The Love Hypothesis, while a film adaptation of the follow-up is also in development.

Hazelwood announced Tuesday that The Two-Body Problem, a sequel to her 2021 romance novel, will be published on February 2, 2027. The book will revisit the relationship between Olive and Adam several years after the events of the original story.

In a social media announcement, Hazelwood said the recent The Love Hypothesis movie and its cast helped her reconnect with the characters. She described returning to Adam and Olive as an enjoyable experience while acknowledging that some readers may prefer to keep their own interpretations of the original story.

The news comes shortly after the release of The Love Hypothesis film on Prime Video. Directed by Claire Scanlon, the adaptation stars Lili Reinhart as Olive Smith and Tom Bateman as Adam Carlsen.

The original novel follows Olive, a Stanford Ph.D. candidate, who enters a fake relationship with the intimidating scientist Adam after trying to convince her friend that she has moved on from a romantic interest.

Published in 2021, The Love Hypothesis became a New York Times bestseller and gained a large following through BookTok. Hazelwood’s books have sold more than 10 million copies worldwide, with several titles also in development for screen adaptations.

The Two-Body Problem is scheduled to arrive in bookstores on February 2, 2027.
