GTA 6 advanced weather system confirmed amid rumours
Grand Theft Auto 6 will feature an “advanced weather system” designed to simulate weather phenomena associated with Florida, according to details shared by Game Informer ahead of its upcoming issue focused on Rockstar Games’ title.
Weather has been a recurring topic surrounding GTA 6, particularly because the game is set in the fictional state of Leonida, which is based on Florida.
The region is known for sunshine and humidity but can also experience hurricanes, tropical storms and periods of colder weather.
Game Informer writer Marcus Stewart confirmed that the magazine will cover the game’s weather technology after speaking with Rockstar about previously undisclosed features.
“As a lifelong native of South Florida, I offer my homegrown perspective as I discuss with Rockstar never-before-shared features such as Grand Theft Auto VI’s advanced weather systems that simulate Florida’s less sunny weather phenomena,” Stewart said.
The preview also states that Leonida contains a “staggering amount” of wildlife and describes Rockstar’s latest world as the studio’s “most culturally and aesthetically accurate and lifelike world to date.”
Reports and listings had previously pointed towards more detailed weather systems in GTA 6. An Amazon listing for the game reportedly referenced “dynamic weather”, while Rockstar job listings had mentioned “large-scale destruction”.
The game’s Florida-inspired setting has also been showcased through footage featuring locations based on the Florida Keys and the Everglades.
GTA 6 is expected to expand the environmental systems seen in previous Rockstar titles, although details do not specify exactly which weather events players will encounter or how they will affect gameplay.
The game is also reported to include a large animal population, with a compendium allowing players to study wildlife in Leonida, drawing comparisons with the animal catalogue system featured in Red Dead Redemption 2.
