Raye addressed dating rumours involving Michael B. Jordan while attending the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, saying the pair are “just friends who like roller coasters”.

Speaking to Extra’s Alyssa Killian on the red carpet, Raye was asked about an undisclosed project she is working on with Jordan. The singer said she could not reveal details about their collaboration.

“I’m technically not allowed to talk about it because I might get in trouble,” Raye said.

When Killian noted that the lack of information had led to speculation that the pair were dating, Raye responded: “No, we’re just friends who like roller coasters.”

Raye was also at the VMAs to perform as part of a tribute to the late George Michael. She performed a gospel-influenced version of “I Knew You Were Waiting for Me”, originally recorded as a duet by Michael and Aretha Franklin.

Raye said the performance had personal significance because of her father’s admiration for Michael.

“My dad is, like, George Michael’s biggest fan,” she said. “It’s really, really beautiful hearing his music growing up and being able to be a tiny part of this incredible tribute. And I think it’s — in that moment, you kind of just realize what a huge impact George had on pop culture.”

The singer also revealed that she had wanted to perform Michael’s “Last Christmas”, but said the timing of the September ceremony made it unsuitable.

“I personally wanted to sing ‘Last Christmas’ because I actually flipping love that song so much!” she said. “But it just wasn't the time of year.”

Raye also discussed her single “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!”, which she said has passed 10 billion downloads on Spotify. The track is the first single from her upcoming sophomore album.

“To be the first single from my sophomore album,” she said. “You always feel the pressure with a sophomore album. All artists... but I just feel really grateful and just proud as well ’cause I love that song.”

Raye also said she would be interested in collaborating with Madonna, who opened the 2026 VMAs with Sabrina Carpenter and Charli xcx.
