'Don’t Breathe 3' is happening, but who is coming back?

Fede Álvarez has confirmed that Don’t Breathe 3 is in development, with Jane Levy and Stephen Lang set to return to the horror franchise.

Álvarez revealed the news during a 10th-anniversary screening of Don’t Breathe at Beyond Fest on September 26. The filmmaker said he has written a script for the third instalment, which is expected to bring Levy back as Rocky and Lang as the Blind Man.

The announcement comes a decade after the original Don’t Breathe was released in August 2016. The film followed three burglars who break into the home of a blind veteran, only to find themselves trapped with a dangerous and unpredictable opponent.

Levy played Rocky, a young woman who participates in the burglary while hoping to escape an abusive home with her younger sister. Lang portrayed the Blind Man, whose abilities and secrets turn the robbery into a fight for survival.

The original Don’t Breathe became a box-office success, earning more than $157 million worldwide against a reported production budget of about $10 million.

The film ended with Rocky escaping Detroit, while a television report revealed that the Blind Man had survived. The sequel, Don’t Breathe 2, was released in 2021 and focused on Lang’s character, with Levy not returning.

The third film could reunite Rocky and the Blind Man following their separate stories in the first two movies. Further details about the plot, director and production schedule for Don’t Breathe 3 have not been announced.

Álvarez previously directed the original film and co-wrote Don’t Breathe 2. His latest announcement marks the first official confirmation of the third movie and Levy’s return to the franchise.
