Did Johnny Depp take dig at Amber Heard with plant-eating moment? Actor draws attention for bizarre act at Vegas event

Johnny Depp sparked speculation at a Las Vegas food and beverage festival after appearing to bite a decorative plant while posing for photographers, with some fans linking the moment to Amber Heard’s famous flower scene in Aquaman.

The 63-year-old actor attended Drink Las Vegas, a four-day festival running from September 24 to 27 across several MGM resorts.

According to reports, Depp was seen at Park MGM on Thursday night, September 25.

Video obtained by TMZ showed Depp posing for photographs before turning towards the foliage backdrop and taking a bite.

He then returned to the cameras with a leaf in his mouth, dropped it and appeared to signal for photographers to wait before taking another bite. He later raised his glass while still posing.

The moment drew comparisons with a scene from Aquaman in which Heard’s character, Mera, mistakes a red rose for food while walking through a Sicilian market with Arthur Curry, played by Jason Momoa.

Some fans have therefore questioned whether Depp’s plant-eating moment was a reference to the scene, although there is no confirmation that it was intentional.

The comparison comes against the backdrop of Depp and Heard’s highly publicised legal battles. Heard accused Depp of abuse, which he denied.

Their 2022 US defamation trial ended with both parties found liable for defamation, with Depp awarded $15 million in damages and Heard awarded $2 million.

The pair later settled the case in December 2022.

Depp has recently returned to public appearances, including a San Diego Comic-Con appearance in July to promote his upcoming film Ebenezer: A Christmas Carol.
