'Off Campus' star Ella Bright joins Mason Thames in 'Narcs'

Ella Bright joins Mason Thames in Sony’s coming-of-age comedy 'Narcs' for her first major studio film role

Ella Bright has joined Mason Thames in Narcs, a new coming-of-age comedy from Sony Pictures, marking the actress’ first major studio feature role, Deadline reported exclusively.

Bright will play the female lead opposite Thames, who is known for starring in The Black Phone. The film marks the directorial debut of John Phillips, the screenwriter behind comedies including No Hard Feelings, Good Boys and Dirty Grandpa.

Plot details for Narcs are being kept under wraps. The screenplay was written by Jordan and Justin Shipley, creators of the TBS comedy Wrecked, with Phillips and Gene Stupnitsky later contributing a rewrite.

Stupnitsky is producing the Sony Pictures project through Big Name Entertainment. Robert Lamonaca, Phillips, Joseph Micucci and Andy Davis are serving as executive producers.

Bright’s casting follows the success of her Prime Video romantic drama series Off Campus, which is based on Elle Kennedy’s book series. According to Deadline, the show attracted 36 million viewers worldwide during its first 12 days on Prime Video, making it the streamer’s third most-watched series debut at the time.

Before Off Campus, Bright portrayed a young Kate Middleton in Netflix’s The Crown and appeared in the historical drama series Malory Towers. She is also set to star alongside Finn Cole and Ben Foster in Gable, an upcoming drama based on a true story involving wrestling.

Narcs adds another major project to Bright’s growing film and television slate, while Thames continues to build his profile following his role in The Black Phone.
