Margot Robbie officially changes name after 10 years of marriage to Tom Ackerley

The change has prompted mixed reactions from fans online with some supporting the actress while others are critical

Margot Robbie has officially changed her surname to Ackerley, nearly a decade after marrying British film producer Tom Ackerley.

Documents published by the couple’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, now list the Australian actress as Margot Elise Ackerley.

However, reports suggest that she is likely to continue using Robbie professionally, the name associated with her Oscar-nominated performances in I, Tonya, Bombshell and Barbie.

The name change has prompted mixed reactions from fans on X, with some questioning why the actress chose to alter her surname while others said she would always be known as Margot Robbie.

“She can be whatever she wants, but she will always be Margot Robbie to her fans,” one fan wrote.

Another said waiting to change her name had been “good for her career”, while another asked, “I’m curious if she’ll keep the Robbie name for her professional work regardless of the name change?”

A further fan joked, “I’m sorry, but you marry a Margot Robbie or a Zendaya Coleman, you take THEIR name.”

Robbie married Ackerley in a Byron Bay ceremony in 2016. The pair first met while working on the 2014 film Suite Française, where Ackerley was an assistant director and Robbie had a supporting role.

The couple co-founded LuckyChap with Josey McNamara and Sophia Kerr in 2014. The production company has since been behind films including I, Tonya, Saltburn and Barbie.

Robbie and Ackerley welcomed their first child in 2024 and continue to balance family life with their work in the film industry.
