Suspects hurt in attack on police team

ISLAMABAD:

Two suspects in police custody were injured after their alleged accomplices opened fire on an Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police team in the jurisdiction of Koral Police Station in an attempt to free them, while the police personnel remained unhurt.

An official said the detained suspects, identified as Sami and Arsalan, were being taken back after police made recoveries on information provided by them during investigation. On the way, four alleged accomplices, who were hiding nearby, opened indiscriminate fire on the police team in an attempt to free the detained suspects.

Police said Sami and Arsalan were injured in the firing by their own accomplices, while the police personnel remained safe due to bulletproof jackets and other protective measures. The firing also damaged a police vehicle, the official said.

The injured suspects were shifted to hospital for medical treatment.

Police said the suspects had previous criminal records involving dozens of cases of dacoity, robbery, theft and drug peddling and were wanted by Islamabad Police.

Police also recovered snatched valuables, a motorcycle and expensive mobile phones from the suspects in connection with different incidents.
