Police investigating overdose as Presley Gerber cause of death

Presley Gerber, 27, has died, with police investigating suspected overdose at rehabilitation facility

Presley Gerber, the son of Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber and older brother of Kaia Gerber, has died aged 27, with police investigating a suspected overdose.

The Santa Monica Police Department said officers responded to a possible overdose at a rehabilitation facility at around 9:35am local time on Sunday, where they found Gerber dead.

“Detectives are investigating the death as a suspected overdose,” Santa Monica Police Lt. Lewis Gilmour said. “At this time, there is no indication of foul play.”

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on Monday. Its office said the “cause and manner of death have been deferred, which means additional testing and/or studies were requested in order to make a determination.”

A representative for the Gerber family said they were “asking for privacy during this very difficult and painful time.”

Gerber had spoken publicly about his experiences with mental health and addiction. In 2020, he explained a “misunderstood” tattoo on his face by saying: “It says misunderstood, because that's how I felt my entire life.”

Speaking on the Studio 22 podcast in 2023, Gerber said, “Having struggled with mental health, depression and some other things that come along with that, I think that whether I help one person or a hundred people get out of that place that I was in at one point in my life, that's all I need to do.”

He added, “[Mental health] is an issue. It is such a big part of my life. It's a 24/7 job, and there's so much to it. That's really what I want to do: help people.”

In a December 2025 Instagram video, Gerber discussed his experiences with psychiatrists and medication, saying, “Every psychiatrist I've had, and I've had 15, are just like, 'Well, here's 20 medications and take this if you feel like this.' And I'm like, 'No, don't give me that much leeway.' I need some direction.”

Gerber also said he had stopped drinking, saying, “That is no longer serving me.”
