Medical exam scheduled after Presley Gerber died at 27, with authorities saying the investigation remains ongoing

New details have emerged following the death of model Presley Gerber, who died on September 20 at the age of 27, according to PEOPLE.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office said on September 21 that an examination was scheduled for the day as authorities continue investigating Gerber’s death. Officials said limited information is currently available and confirmed that the Santa Monica Police Department is handling the investigation.

According to the medical examiner, Gerber’s death was pronounced at 9:45am on September 20 by responding paramedics. The cause and manner of death have not been publicly determined.

Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, was at a rehabilitation facility when he died, according to a previous medical examiner report. He was also the older brother of model Kaia Gerber.

A representative for Crawford, Rande Gerber and Kaia Gerber said the family is asking for privacy during this difficult time.

Before his death, Gerber had spoken publicly about his struggles with mental health, depression and addiction. During a 2023 appearance on the Studio 22 podcast, he said he hoped sharing his experiences could help others dealing with similar challenges.

Gerber also discussed his experience with ibogaine, a naturally occurring psychedelic compound that has been studied for its potential role in addiction treatment. In a social media post shared in March, he described undergoing an ibogaine treatment and reflected on the fear he experienced before it.
