Student found murdered two days after going missing

Students protest, question hostel security as body found in banana field

HYDERABAD:

A first-year student of Quaid-e-Awam University of Engineering, Science and Technology (QUEST), Shaheed Benazirabad, was found murdered on Sunday, two days after he went missing while returning from the university.

Police recovered the body of Aqib Ali Almani from a banana field along the Nawabshah-Sakrand Road. Police said they had yet to determine the motive for the killing.

Almani, a resident of Naushehro Feroze district, was enrolled in the university's Data Sciences programme. His uncle, Zulfiqar Almani, alleged that the student had been subjected to severe torture before his death.

Following the discovery of the body, QUEST students held a protest against the killing. They alleged that Almani had been abducted from the university hostel, raising concerns over security arrangements at the campus hostel.

Police said an investigation into the murder was under way.
