Islamabad High Court halts deportation of Afghan medical trainee

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday suspended the order for deportation of Afghan medical trainee Imaduddin and restrained authorities from deporting him from Pakistan.

Justice Khadim Hussain Somroo passed the directions while hearing a petition filed by a Pakistani woman seeking protection of her Afghan husband's urology training against a notification issued by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

During the hearing, Barrister Qasim Nawaz Abbasi, counsel for the petitioner, argued that the PMDC's July 31, 2026 letter could not be applied retrospectively to doctors already undergoing education and training.

He submitted that Dr Imaduddin's training had already been extended by the competent authority until February 27, 2027.

The counsel said the petitioner had no objection to any future policy but requested that trainees already enrolled be allowed to complete their training.
