Mohmand schools face teacher shortage

519 students affected as key posts remain vacant

The education of 519 students is reportedly being affected by a severe shortage of teachers at two government schools in Halimzai tehsil of Mohmand tribal district, raising concerns among parents about their children's academic future.

According to local sources, the Government Primary School Yaseen Kor Kamali has only one teacher for around 300 students, making it extremely difficult to provide proper classroom instruction.

Similarly, several key teaching positions are vacant at the Government High School Ghazi Baig, which has 219 students. The vacant posts include those of the headmaster and teachers for mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.

Local PTI leader Jahangir Khan visited Ghazi Baig High School and reviewed the situation. He said two SST teachers were currently posted at the school, but one of them was on leave due to illness. In addition, one physical training (PT) teacher and one ordinary teacher (OT) were performing teaching duties.

Meanwhile, local Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam leader Qari Fazlur Rehman expressed concern over the shortage of teachers at Yaseen Kor Primary School, where approximately 300 children are being taught by just one teacher.

Both political leaders urged the Education Department and senior authorities to immediately review the shortage of teachers and vacant posts in government schools across Mohmand and fill the positions on a priority basis.

Jahangir Khan also called for a comprehensive review by the provincial government of teacher postings and transfers, particularly the transfer of teachers from schools in the district to other areas.
