4-year old disappearance case reopens as murder investigation
Police link unidentified Islamabad body to missing Mailsi woman Amina

MAILSI:
Police have claimed to have traced the four-year-old disappearance of a woman from Mailsi after identifying an unidentified body found in Islamabad as that of the missing woman, while her husband has emerged as the main suspect in the case.
Police said, Amina Bibi, a resident of Chak 261-WB, went missing in 2021. After failing to trace her for a prolonged period, her father registered a missing-person case at Tibba Sultanpur police station in October 2022.
Rafiq told police that he had repeatedly visited his son-in-law, Muhammad Fayyaz, to inquire about his daughter and meet her. However, he alleged that Fayyaz kept delaying the matter on different pretexts and did not allow him to meet Amina.
The repeated evasions led him to suspect that his daughter might have been killed or confined somewhere, according to the complainant.
Police said that after registration of the case, investigators examined different aspects of Amina's disappearance and collected information from her family members, relatives and other relevant people.
The role of her husband was also investigated, but no conclusive breakthrough was achieved at the time.
Police further said Fayyaz later moved to Islamabad with his family and remained out of contact for a long period.
Police said that on the special directions of Vehari DPO Tasawwar Iqbal, the investigation was subsequently revived under the supervision of Mailsi DSP Rao Tariq Parvez.
Tibba Sultanpur SHO Rana Saqib Nazir and his team resumed work on the case and questioned Fayyaz's mother and brother.
According to police, investigators noticed alleged discrepancies in their statements and found some of their responses unsatisfactory.
The probe was subsequently expanded, leading investigators to learn that Fayyaz was in Islamabad.
Police said the investigation then focused on an unidentified body found in Islamabad. Investigators linked Amina's disappearance with a case involving an unidentified woman's body recovered within the jurisdiction of Golra Sharif police station.
The Tibba Sultanpur police contacted Golra Sharif police and examined the available records and evidence relating to the unidentified body.
Further investigation eventually established the identity of the body as Amina Bibi. Police further claimed that the investigation had established Fayyaz's involvement in Amina's alleged killing.
