Netflix has announced that production on Scooby-Doo: Origins has officially wrapped ahead of the live-action series' planned global release in 2027.
The upcoming Netflix series is described as a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group and their Great Dane companion. The story follows longtime friends Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp, where they become involved in a mystery surrounding a lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder.
The pair team up with Velma, described as a pragmatic and scientific town resident, and Freddy, a mysterious new arrival. Together, the group attempts to uncover the truth while facing a mystery that threatens to expose their secrets.
The series was filmed in Atlanta and features McKenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Tanner Hagen as Shaggy Rogers, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones.
A real Great Dane will portray Scooby-Doo, marking the first time a real dog has played the character in the franchise.
The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser, Rusty Schwimmer, Peter Macon, Jona Xiao, Dani Deetté, Elysée Sanvillé, Alex Isles, Avery Kristen Pohl, Sara Gilbert, Wynn Everett, Bruce McGill, André Benjamin and Cathy Moriarty.
Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg serve as showrunners and writers, with Toby Haynes also executive producing. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Leigh London Redman are among the executive producers, while Warner Bros. Television serves as the studio.
Netflix has not yet announced an exact release date for Scooby-Doo: Origins, but the series is expected to premiere globally in 2027.
