'Robber' shot dead

JARANWALA:

A robber wanted in more than 40 robbery and street crime cases was killed in an alleged encounter with the Crime Control Department (CCD) on Narwala Bypass, while his accomplices escaped.

Police said CCD teams had set up a checkpoint near Damr Flour Mills to arrest proclaimed offenders. The suspects opened fire when signalled to stop, triggering an exchange of fire during the chase.

Noman alias Nomi Machhi was injured allegedly by firing from his accomplices and later died at a hospital. Police shifted his body to Allied Hospital for post-mortem.
