Dengue breeding grounds uncovered

District health authorities have detected extensive dengue mosquito breeding across Rawalpindi during ongoing surveillance and anti-dengue operations. However, no active dengue-related hospital admissions or deaths have been reported in the district during the first week of September.

According to surveillance data released by health authorities on Monday, only six confirmed dengue cases have been reported in Rawalpindi this year, all in July.

The highest larval activity was detected in UC Girja, Gulistan Colony and Rahimabad, while breeding sites were also found in UC Morgah, Dhoke Mangtal, UC Kulyal, CTR-10 Kamalabad, CTC-8 Dheri Hasanabad, Chak Jalaldin, UC Chaklala and other areas.

Health teams inspected 4,531,894 houses and detected dengue breeding at 12,906 of them. Larvae were also found at 19,900 sites out of 8,156,563 inspected.

According to the vector surveillance data, 44 union councils have recorded a Breteau Index above 10, indicating an increased risk of dengue transmission.

To control the spread of dengue, 1,400 field teams are conducting surveillance and have achieved 100 per cent coverage of all 17,859 registered hotspots.
