Gull Feroza fined for dissent

Pakistan batter Gull Feroza has been fined 10 percent of her match fee and handed a demerit point for showing dissent at an umpire’s decision during their Women’s T20 Asia Cup victory over Hong Kong.

Feroza was dismissed leg before wicket in the fifth over of Pakistan’s innings after attempting to sweep a delivery from Hong Kong left-arm wrist-spinner Kary Chan.

With no Decision Review System (DRS) in use at the tournament, Feroza had to leave the field after the on-field umpire gave her out.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) said Feroza showed dissent by gesturing towards her bat to indicate she had edged the ball.

The incident breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct, relating to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision.

It was Feroza’s second offence within a 24-month period, taking her total to two demerit points during that period.

She is the second Pakistan player to face disciplinary action during the tournament after captain Fatima Sana was fined 10 percent of her match fee and given one demerit point for her send-off to India’s Shafali Verma.

Sana gestured towards the pavilion after taking a return catch off Shafali during India’s chase in Pakistan’s 55-run victory on Saturday.

Pakistan followed that win with a 72-run victory over Hong Kong, securing their place in the semi-finals as the second team from Group A.

They will face Sri Lanka in Friday’s second semi-final, while Bangladesh take on India in the first semi-final on Thursday.
