New Super Smash Bros game reportedly in development

New Super Smash Bros game is reportedly in development, but Ultimate’s full roster may not return, according to leaks

A new Super Smash Bros game is reportedly in development, with a Nintendo leaker claiming the next entry will be a new game rather than a port or Deluxe version of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

The claim comes from YouTube user Malo932, who has recently attracted attention for accurately predicting several Nintendo plans before their official announcements. Malo reportedly made the claim in replies to a Nintendo Forecast video that has since been deleted.

According to the post, Nintendo is working on a new Super Smash Bros title that would not be a re-release or port of Ultimate.

The claim was later highlighted by Centro Leaks alongside other alleged Nintendo projects, including new Nintendogs, Wario Land and 3D Mario games.

Malo’s recent track record includes correctly predicting that Nintendo would announce two Direct presentations in September 2026.

VGC also noted that several of Malo’s previous claims were posted six days before similar information was shared by Nate the Hate.

However, Nintendo has not announced a new Super Smash Bros game, meaning the project remains unconfirmed.

Another insider, KiwiTalkz, previously claimed that a new Smash game could arrive as early as 2027, although it was unclear whether that referred to a completely new title or a re-release of Super Smash Bros. or Super Smash Bros. Melee.

If a new entry is eventually confirmed, its roster could be smaller than Ultimate’s. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate eventually expanded to 89 playable fighters, including DLC, and brought back every character from previous games.

Series creator Masahiro Sakurai has previously discussed the difficulty of maintaining such a large roster. In 2021, he said that creating another game at the same scale would mean "we would have to shrink the roster."
