Diplo walks six miles to escape Burning Man after rain shuts down exits
Diplo walked six miles to leave Burning Man after heavy rain closed the festival’s main entry and exit routes

DJ and producer Diplo took an unusual route out of Burning Man after heavy rain forced the closure of the festival’s main entry and exit points in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert.
The electronic music star shared videos on Instagram showing his attempt to leave the festival grounds. With the usual routes closed because of the weather, Diplo reportedly walked about six miles to reach the nearest road, where a friend was waiting to pick him up.
In one video, Diplo spoke with the person collecting him, who suggested the walk should have taken about 39 minutes. Diplo said the journey had instead taken roughly two hours.

Diplo had performed at Burning Man for two nights and also shared a glimpse of the festival’s late-night atmosphere. In one post, he joked about the participants staying up through the early morning hours, writing, “These people are sick in the head, I love it.”
This was not Diplo’s first difficult experience leaving Burning Man. In 2023, he recalled escaping the festival during another period of heavy rain, when he and comedian Chris Rock reportedly hitchhiked out of the area.
The latest incident came as Burning Man dealt with another serious event. Organisers confirmed that a participant in his mid-50s died after experiencing a medical emergency at the festival. Emergency medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the man died shortly afterwards.
Burning Man organisers expressed condolences to the participant’s family, friends and others affected by the death. His identity was not immediately released pending notification of his family.
Diplo has also spoken publicly about his family this year, revealing in August that he had quietly welcomed a daughter, who celebrated her first birthday in 2026.
