Iqra Aziz calls marriage to Yasir Hussain a blessing, dismisses age-gap concerns

Actor speaks about compatibility, motherhood, mom guilt and her plans to eventually take on theatre

Iqra Aziz described her relationship with husband Yasir Hussain as a blessing, saying their age gap had never affected their relationship.

The actor spoke in an interview while supporting her husband at his theatre production So Suite in Lahore. During the conversation, she spoke about her relationship with Hussain, addressing criticism over their age gap, as well as motherhood and her acting career.

When speaking about her relationship with Hussain, Aziz said, “I think people say otherwise but I feel it is ‘Khush kismati’ and nothing else”.

“Yasir is such a kind husband and you can see that from being around our family and how happy I am. He is one of a kind,” she added.

Addressing fan speculation about their more than 10-year age gap, Aziz said she disagreed with the idea that it was a negative thing, arguing that compatibility was more important.

“I think this age gap is good because if you see, it was the same with our parents and when they got married. The only important thing is that your life goals align,” she said.

Aziz also opened up about motherhood, saying that mom guilt was a major concern for working mothers.

“When working moms are not present, we do not get to give our kids the same attention. When we are available, they want us to just stay and keep our attention on them. So, today when I was here after a shoot, they were like no video or photos and just attention to us,” she said.

She also spoke about the support system around her children, saying both families helped ensure they were surrounded by loved ones. “My family is with the kids and also Yasir’s sister. So they have their grandmother and aunt and so many people in our family that they are always happy,” she added.

Aziz ended her comments on motherhood by offering advice to mothers struggling with guilt. “Mom guilt comes to working women and non-working women. Do not put yourself down because of it. You are doing amazing.”

The actor also praised Hussain’s theatre production, describing it as a major leap from television while admitting that she would like to take on theatre herself one day. “I am scared of theatre. I’ll do it someday because I have always been on television so acting that way everyday is different,” she said.

Reflecting on her own acting career, Aziz said she had waited for the right opportunity to make her debut. “It was written for me to come on screen when I got a good character.”

Aziz and Hussain married in December 2019 after getting engaged a year earlier at an awards ceremony. The couple have two children, Kabir and Sophia.
